It is a truth universally acknowledged that this opening is probably one you'll read a thousand times today, because it's the 200th anniversary of the publication of one of our favorite books, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. You can read the book online here.

Austen herself, probably writing tongue in cheek, called it "rather too light, and bright, and sparkling." Ms Austen, we beg to differ, and today have teamed up with the JaneAustenAuthor Facebook page to present an austenaganza in your honor.

David M. Shapard, the author of The Annotated Pride and Prejudice, teaches us 12 things we didn't know about the book; world-famous crime writer P.D. James identifies two problems with the book's plot, which she attempted to resolve in her own Death in Pemberley.

Is Colin Firth the definitive onscreen Mr Darcy? Or is it Matthew Macfayden? We have convincing arguments for both, while Paula Byrne, author of The Real Jane Austen, identifies objects that reveal stories about Austen's life. And how about a Pride and Prejudice Playlist?

We are ever sensible of the warmest gratitude towards our contributors, and by bringing them into HuffPost Books, we are the means of uniting them.

Which is your favorite part of P&P? Let us know in the comments, or by sending a carriage with the news to our abode forthwith.
