According to motivational speaker Tony Robbins, if you’re going to succeed in anything in life, whether it's in a relationship, your career, your level of happiness or your finances, there are three things that will affect your success or failure at the most basic level. On "Oprah's Lifeclass," Tony talks about why it's imperative to have a strategy, change your story and develop a quality state.
The first thing you need to succeed is a strategy, he says. "You need to know, 'How do I get this done, right? How do I make this shift? How do I make this money? How do I turn this around? How do I lose this weight? How do I make a difference with my kids?' There’s the how-to."
Secondly, you need the "right story." "Because if your story is a lousy story, you’ll never find the strategy or you’ll never use it," he says. "And the way you do it is you divorce it and you come up with a new one -- but that sounds easy. When you’re in your story it’s hard, isn't it? Because you said it so many times. It almost has a life of its own."
In order to find your right story, you need the third thing, which is a quality state, he says. "You need a different state of mind.... Because the state you’re in will determine your story.... It’s easy getting a habit of being pissy or angry, or sad or feeling depressed. And here’s the worst part: It feels terrible, but you’ve gone there so often it’s home for you. Meaning it’s comfortable, because you know it. And you’ve got to break out of that."
