Most and Least Bible-Minded Cities 2013

The Bible is believed to be the most widely read and translated book of all time. But how do Americans view the Bible? A report released by the evangelical Christian research firm Barna Group on Jan. 23 aims to answer that question. The study, commissioned by the American Bible Society, is based on 42,855 interviews conducted between 2005 and 2012 in 96 of the largest cities in the nation. Individuals who reported reading the Bible weekly and who affirmed the accuracy of Biblical principles were deemed to be “Bible-minded.”

The researchers found Knoxville, Tenn., to be the most “Bible-minded” city in the United States with 52 percent of whose surveyed characterized as “Bible-minded.” Providence, R.I., was found to be the least “Bible-minded” city with only 9 percent of those surveyed qualifying as “Bible-minded.” Unsurprisingly, a majority of the most and least “Bible-minded” cities lie in the Bible belt and New England, respectively.

For a complete list of the 96 most and least "Bible minded" cities, read the report at Barna Group's website.
