Emily VanCamp is negotiating to star in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," the sequel to 2011's "Captain America: First Avenger." That's the report from Deadline.com, which claims the "Revenge" actress is close to signing her deal. It's rumored that VanCamp would play Sharon Carter, the niece of Captain America's first love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Chris Evans is returning as Captain America.
(Fans will recall that Peggy was left behind in the 1940s when Captain America was frozen in ice and thawed before "Marvel's The Avengers"; "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will take place in present day.)
Should VanCamp sign on, it would end months of searching for the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" female lead. Back in October of 2012, Deadline.com reported that Emelia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie were on the short list for the role. That same month, Latino Review named Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a possibility, but the actress denied her involvement on Twitter.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is due out in theaters on April 4, 2014.
