While our triggers may vary, we all have one thing in common: Stress -- and plenty of it.
Friday, Feb. 1, Katie Couric tackles ways we can combat this growing epidemic (which has been dubbed by one as "the new fat") on her show, Katie. Couric seeks tips, tools and advice from actress Goldie Hawn and Dr. Deepak Chopra.
Neither Hawn nor Chopra are rookies to the game of stress. Stress management, particularly for children, is a passion of Hawn's. Her MindUP program -- developed by The Hawn Foundation -- teaches mindfulness techniques to students beginning in kindergarten through seventh grade, with the intention to help youths better recognize and manage their stress. As it says on The Hawn Foundation website, "[the] program provides children with emotional and cognitive tools to help them manage emotions and behaviors, reduce stress, sharpen concentration and increase empathy and optimism."
In the clip above, Chopra begins to explain how a better understanding of our brains will help us take control over our stress.
