Ally Del Monte, a 14-year-old from New Milford, Connecticut, has a strong track record of giving back to her community.
Last September, the 14-year-old made headlines for her fundraising efforts with a lemonade stand that helped benefit New Milford families affected by a deadly home explosion. And as NBC Connecticut reports, this isn’t the teen’s first time giving back to others –- she also authored a children’s book titled, “Lilly’s Story,” about an abused dog. The proceeds from her book go to neglected animals.
Now, Del Monte is directing her efforts towards her own peers with a blog called losergurl.com that aims to help teens deal with being bullied. Having experienced bullying first-hand, Del Monte’s goal is to reach other teens who are suffering from depression as a result of being picked on
“I felt like an outcast, and then I went online and I saw a bunch of other people felt like that. They were getting bullied and picked on,” she told NBC Connecticut. “It felt like no one was there for them and I wanted them to know there was someone else out there that knew how they felt.”
Another high school student has been making headlines this month because of his creative anti-bullying efforts. Jeremiah, a junior, started a Twitter account to share compliments about his classmates and spread positivity.
"I believe that showing the goodness in people is very integral to our account, because so many people on Twitter and Facebook get cyberbullied because they're less than perfect,” he explained.
And last March, a group of New York teens put together a song called “Freak in the Crowd,” that deals with issues of bullying and harassment and posted it on YouTube.
"I hope people see it and they're like, wow, I can make a difference and I can be the one to stand up and make someone's day even save someone's life," lead singer Grace Gara told YNN Syracuse.
