Senator Sherrod Brown, who along with Senator Jeff Merkley sent a letter this week urging the Boy Scouts of America to accept gay members, joined HuffPost Live's Alicia Menendez Thursday to discuss his call for the group to end its discriminatory practices.

"It's just outrageous. This is 2013," the Ohio Democrat and former Eagle Scout said. "We've eliminated Don't Ask Don't Tell in the military. We've made progress throughout our country...the time to do it is now."

Brown called on the Boy Scouts, which put off a decision on the issue until May, to "reconvene" and "get rid of this policy of discrimination."

"The Boy Scouts have an opportunity to be the kind of leaders the Girl Scouts have been, the military has been, most of society is moving towards," he told Menendez. "Eliminate that discrimination."

Brown also commented on Fox News, saying the cable news network "doesn't acknowledge facts."

"It's too bad that a media organization making that kind of money would take advantage and play on people's fears, and play on people's prejudices," he said.
