Stephen Colbert Is Democrats' 'Surprise Guest' At Conference

Stephen Colbert Makes A Surprise Political Appearance

Stephen Colbert will be the "surprise guest" at this year's House Democratic Issues Conference, according to House Democratic Chairman Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.).

"The Colbert Report" host was invited to the closed-press event by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, according to Politico. "We assume this is Stephen Colbert’s attempt at bipartisanship,” her spokesman Drew Hammill told the paper.

The House Democrats gathered in Leesburg, Va., also heard yesterday from President Barack Obama.

Colbert isn't the only one in his family with political aspirations; his sister Elizabeth Colbert-Busch is running an uphill race as a Democrat for Congress in South Carolina.
