Carlos Bertonatti Will Plead Guilty In Fatal Rickenbacker Hit-And-Run: Report

Pop Singer's Surprising Plea In Notorious Hit-And-Run

An aspiring pop star accused in a fatal hit-and-run in 2010 on the Rickenbacker Causeway is reportedly pleading guilty.

The Miami Herald reports that Carlos Bertonatti, 32, will enter a guilty plea at a February 19 hearing, delayed so that the victim's family can attend the trial from France.

Bertonatti allegedly struck 44-year-old cyclist Christophe LeCanne on Key Biscayne's Bear Cut Bridge in the early morning hours of January 17, 2010 and then fled, dragging LeCanne's bike for miles, according to the Miami New Times.

Only 28 at the time of the incident, Bertonatti, who has a track on the 'Easy A' soundtrack, already had 40 driving violations.

LeCanne died before paramedics arrived.

Police, who saw the bike under Bertonatti's car, arrested the flushed-faced singer and forcibly took a blood test, according to the arrest affidavit. His blood alcohol level was reportedly .122.

He was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, resisting arrest, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Bertonatti initially bonded out on $100,000 bail, pleading not guilty. He has since been on house arrest.

Two years later, another reportedly drunk driver, Michele Traverso, struck and killed cyclist Aaron Cohen on the same stretch of road.

Traverso was sentenced to less than a year in jail as investigators could not prove he was driving under the influence.
