The novel is about a young boy, Theo, who survives an explosion that takes his mother's life. He becomes obsessed with a painting that reminds him of his mother, which ends up drawing him into the art underworld.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating, as it has been 11 years since Tartt published her last book, The Little Friend.
Little, Brown acquired The Goldfinch almost five years ago, with a 2012 scheduled release date.
Tartt's first book, The Secret History, was a bestseller. Though publishers usually only print 10,000 books for debut authors, Knopf chose to print 75,000. The book is described as a sort of inverted detective story, not so much as a 'Whodunit,' but rather more of a 'Whydunit.'
