Clara Cowell, British Woman, Quits Smoking At Age 102

Posted: Updated:

Better late than never?

The Lancashire Evening Post reported on the story of 102-year-old Clara Cowell, a British woman who has finally stopped smoking after picking up the habit in 1931 (meaning she's smoked nearly 60,000 cigarettes in total).

“The secret to mum’s long life is a cigarette and a cup of tea with whiskey. That and hard work and poverty," Cowell's daughter, Lynda Fowler, told the Post.

However, we at Healthy Living might beg to differ -- getting lucky in the genetics department plays a huge part, and other factors like maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle and having an optimistic view on life could also influence longevity.
