Comic Villains: New 'Legion of Doom' Creator Bily Mariano Da Luz Depicts Real-Life Evildoers (IMAGES)

LOOK: Real-Life Supervillains Become Comic Characters

Artist and illustrator Bily Mariano da Luz recently made comic book cartoons all the more disturbing my replacing the mythical super-villains with their real-life counterparts in his latest series, "Legion of Doom." Imaginary evildoers like the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus are replaced with real-life criminals or "suspicious figure[s]" including Osama Bin Laden and Charles Manson.

The resulting images are disturbing in their playful aesthetic, alluding to the entertainment value sought in even the most horrific of events. Also, the series also includes some unlikely choices -- Mark Zuckerberg, really?

The Brazilian artist's real-life "Legion of Doom," which we first saw on Laughing Squid, provides a different take on the faces we often see splashed in newspapers and featured in history books. In an email to The Huffington Post, Da Luz explained:

"The depressing thing? Realising that if the comic book supervillains were actually the ones threatening real life, the world wouldn't be such a bad place."

What do you think of da Luz's unconventional drawings? Do you find them provocative or insensitive? Let us know in the comments section.
