Frederick Douglass Quotes Still Hold Significance Centuries Later

Happy birthday, Frederick Douglass! Well, sort of.

Unfortunately the exact date of the iconic abolitionist's birth is unknown, with several proposed dates, including the 14th, 17th, 18th and 20th. He was reportedly born in February 1818 and died on February 20, 1895, at age 77.

Despite being born a slave, Douglass became one of the most famous intellectuals of his time, serving as an advisor to presidents and lecturing on a range of topics, including women's rights.

Douglass was indeed a visionary, and while his words held incredible significance hundreds of years ago, they still ring true today. In honor of the legendary intellectual and abolitionist, we've compiled some of his most profound quotes.
