10 Things To Do On Easter Island That Don't Involve Stone Heads (PHOTOS)

Everyone knows about the enduring appeal of Easter Island's stone heads, enormous statues that are actually full-body representations of long-lost ancestors. They feature in almost every story about the island and they're a convenient shorthand symbol for the place that so many have heard about but very few choose to visit.

That it should be this way, though, is a shame because there's so much else to see and do on Easter Island.

From hikes into the wilderness to cultural festivals to scuba diving in crystal blue waters, there's almost enough to do that there's no time for seeing ancient monumental statues. Almost.
