MORRISANIA — Police believe they have identified the dismembered body found inside bags scattered around a residential Bronx neighborhood Tuesday morning, pairing the remains to a woman reported missing by her son Tuesday morning, sources said.

A man visited The Bronx's 40th precinct stationhouse Tuesday morning to report that he hadn't been able to contact or find his mother, who lived near the crime scene, for two days, sources said.

The man showed police a photo of his mother, and investigators brought it to the scene, where they matched it to the decapitated head found in one of the bags, sources said.

The remains were found in several bags strewn around an approximately three-block radius near Eagle Avenue between East 149th and 161st Streets in Morrisania about 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Police found the woman's head, legs, and hip scattered in bags across the area, sources said.

They were expected to question the woman's son and an ex-husband, they said.

The woman had three children, the 24-year-old son, a 23-year-old daughter, and a 6-year-old son with down syndrome, neighbors and relatives said. Neighbors said the oldest son would watch the young son when the woman went to work.

"She's a good person, she's a good mom," one neighbor said.
