'90210' Cancelled By The CW: Series To End Five-Year Run In May

The CW Cancels '90210'

The CW has cancelled "90210," The Huffington Post has confirmed. TVLine first broke the news.

The Season 5 finale on May 13 will be the teen soap's last. The series has never been a ratings heavy-hitter in the vein of its predecessor, "Beverly Hills, 90210": According to The Hollywood Reporter, "90210's" February 18 episode dropped to a series low rating of 0.2 in the adults 18-49 demo, drawing only 550,000 viewers, with most of Season 5 failing to crack a million watchers.

"The CW has had five great seasons with America’s favorite zip code, 90210,” the network's president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “I’d like to thank the talented cast, producers, and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni.”

The CW recently gave early renewals to "Arrow," "Supernatural" and "The Vampire Diaries," with decisions yet to be made on the future of bubble shows like "Beauty and the Beast," "Nikita," "Hart of Dixie" and "The Carrie Diaries." The network just shifted midseason drama "Cult" to Friday nights, which could be seen as a death-knell for the low-rated thriller.

At the recent Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Pedowitz implied that "90210" could be back for a truncated final season, which is something that the network did for "Gossip Girl" and "One Tree Hill" despite low ratings. "I am a big believer in giving fans a very satisfactory conclusion,” Pedowitz said. “It’s something that we as a television industry need to do.”

"90210" will finish out its run on Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW. The series finale will air on Monday, May 13. Find out when The CW's other shows are airing their season (or potential series) finales here.
