Harry Styles might be a lot of things, but a villain? According to NME he is.

Styles took home the "Villain of the Year" award at the 2013 NME Awards on Wednesday, according to the British music magazine. He beat out the likes of Prime Minister David Cameron, "Gangnam Style" artist PSY, producer Skrillex, rapper Azealia Banks and indie rocker Fred Macpherson.

Did his breakup with country superstar Taylor Swift have something to do with the "Villain" win?

"I don’t think I’ve done anything that bad, have I? I wouldn’t say villain," Styles told the U.K.'s Metro after first being nominated. Nominations for the "Villain" award were selected following a reader vote, according to NME.

The Villain of the Year award wasn't the only blow to Styles' ego on Wednesday. One Direction also managed to score the Worst Band of the Year award as well, MTV News notes.

Still, the floppy-haired singer took it all in stride. He "thanked" NME for the honors, tweeting from the band's Glasgow, Scotland, tour stop.

And thank you to for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?

But at least one British artist agreed with NME's pick.

Singer/songwriter Jake Bugg dissed One Direction following the awards show. "I don't know how they can really be considered a band though to be honest," he said when asked about their "Worst Band" win, according to the Sun. "I'm not too sure. I think the more I play on it, it'll wind them up. They're there to look good. Music wise? I assume they don't really have a clue. We'll just see. They might do."

As for Styles, Bugg said he is "the ugliest one" but "the best singer," according to the Sun. "He might know a couple of chords," he said.

Consumers certainly seem to disagree. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry announced that One Direction had the third and fourth best-selling global albums of 2012, E! News reported. "Up All Night" sold 4.5 million while "Take Me Home" sold 4.4 million. They were topped only by Adele and Swift.
