Josh Duhamel recently told The Associated Press that he and wife Fergie have been diligently doing their homework on parenting as they prepare for the birth of their first child this summer. The "Safe Haven" actor, 40, said that Fergie's chosen reading material was "What to Expect When You're Expecting," while his was "The Expectant Father."
And now Duhamel tells People that he's already begun communicating with his baby-to-be.
"I’ve had full conversations with the baby already,” Duhamel told the magazine at Nickelodeon's upfront presentation Tuesday. “I’m trying my best to communicate from beyond the womb. Whether it can hear me, I don’t know, but I’m talking to it a lot.”
He also revealed that he's not daunted by the less glamorous duties of having a newborn.
“I actually look forward to that stuff that people warn you about,” he says. “I don’t mind waking up and dealing with the middle of the night stuff. I wake up early anyway. So I’m definitely ready for it. More so than I’ve ever been.”
Fergie, 37, announced her pregnancy via Twitter Feb. 18, telling followers "Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #mylovelybabybump" as Duhamel tweeted a similar message.
The couple married in January 2009 after dating for four years, and discussed their plans to start a family with Rachael Ray in September. "We do hope for children and that will be coming up, but it's not yet," Fergie said.
