If you've been plugged in to our site recently, you know that this Friday, March 1 at sundown marks the official start of the National Day of Unplugging.

Americans around the country have pledged to disconnect from their gadgets for 24 hours, and for good reason: Taking digital detoxes can improve our productivity at work, restore our ability to focus and strengthen our connections with the people we love.

While most of us at HuffPost won't be unplugging for a full 24 hours today, we do prioritize mindful moments to disconnect from digital drama. What prompts us to break from our technologically-charged lives? See the reasons we unplug in the slideshow below:
