"Real L Word" star Saj Golde hopes her latest endeavor, BlackOUT Magazine, provides a positive outlet for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of African descent.
“When I first came out a few years ago, I had no clue what it meant to be a black lesbian," Golde told Elixher. "There were plenty of images of white lesbian relationships, Ellen and Portia, 'The L Word,' then 'The Real L Word' ladies and their partners -- but no one who looked like me, or whose experiences represented my experiences. I really struggled to figure out what my life meant relative to my sexuality and I had very little guidance along my journey."
She went on to note, "After being a part of 'The Real L Word,' I learned of many other young LGBTQ people of color who were also in need of LGBTQ role models, a role I certainly couldn’t take on alone. So I wanted to create BlackOUT as a space where LGBTQ individuals can see themselves, people like them, experiences like theirs."
Golde, the lesbian newbie seen on Season Two of Showtime's "The Real L-Word," has also been producing music videos since the show.
BlackOUT is available via subscription and can be downloaded on mobile devices and tablets monthly.
