Birth Control For Rats? MTA Looking Into New Method To Curb Rodent Population In NYC Subways (VIDEO)

Although experts are doubtful the city's rat population spiked since Hurricane Sandy, the MTA is investing in a new method to curb the number of rodents in the New York City subway.

The agency has reportedly hired SenesTech, a pest control company, to test a new rat bait that acts as a kind of birth control, inducing early menopause in female rats and thus preventing them from reproducing.

Although funding for the costly program is coming from the National Institute for Health, some believe the $1 million should be spent elsewhere.

The birth control report comes fresh off the heels of an MTA fare hike which raised monthly unlimited cards to $112.
