'5AM in Toronto': Drake Unveils Angry New Single (AUDIO)

Why's Drake So Angry?

Drake unveiled the second single from his "Nothing Was the Same," his upcoming third studio album early Thursday morning. "5AM in Toronto" sees the "Best I Ever Had" rapper following an "everyone hates me" rubric that even casual Drake listeners are familiar with, but the song still packs a punch.

"That’s why every song sounds like Drake featuring Drake," the Toronto native boasts on the record, echoing an earlier Drake lyric from "Lord Knows": "But if all I hear is me, when who should I be afraid of? Drizzy takes pride in his place in hip-hop, asserting that "the part I love most is they need me more than they hate me."

Other notable one-hitters: "Sinatra lifestyle, I'm just being Frank with you," "I could load every gun with bullets that fire backwards / You probably wouldn't lose a single rapper" and "I made Forbes list, n---a / F--k your list, everything's lookin' gorgeous." (The "list" line may be a reference to MTV's Hottest MCs List, which has Drake at No. 5 and a very disappointed Kanye West at No. 7.)

"Started From the Bottom," the first "Nothing Was the Same" single, received heavy critical praise and performed extremely well on urban blogs. Both tracks focus on cataloguing Drake's various accomplishments, though "Started" was mocked for seeming a bit forced (Drake described "the bottom" as a place where he had to borrow a car from his uncle, argue with his mom and sit in "traffic on the way home" from work).
