Spring Break 2013: Travelers Look To Break With Traditional Destinations (PHOTOS)

Dreaming of a spring break destination? It might not be the type of sandy paradise you may expect.

Travel search site Kayak has analyzed more than a billion queries to create a survey of the destinations that U.S. travelers are dreaming about visiting this March and few offer the traditional sun-and-sand so often associated with spring break.

While Florida figured heavily in the top 10, Orlando was the most popular spring break destination there, topping beach-centric Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Big cities also got a lot of interest from travelers, with New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco all in the top 10.

Kayak's survey of the search data doesn't conclude that these are actually the destinations that visitors will choose -- the site doesn't track bookings -- but they do offer a window into what destinations are on the minds of spring breakers.

Whatever the destination, "The cheapest time to book is 21-35 days before departure," a Kayak spokeswoman told HuffPost Travel. In other words, if you've yet to make those spring break plans, don't wait any longer.
