Julio Acevedo Hit-And-Run Case: Mother Defends Suspect In Fatal Crash As 'Mr. Mom,' Not A 'Monster'

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK -- The mother of the man charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pregnant woman and her husband says her son is not a "monster."

Dalia Wyatt tells the Daily News ( that defendant Julio Acevedo (ah-seh-VAY'-doh) is "not the monster they're portraying him to be," and that he's "beautiful with his children. He's like Mr. Mom."

His wife, Dorothy Acevedo, agrees. She says he quit his job after their second daughter was born to become a stay-at-home dad.

On Wednesday, a grand jury indicted Acevedo on charges of leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say Acevedo was speeding on March 3 before crashing into the hired car carrying Nachman (NAHK'-muhn) and Raizy Glauber (RAY'-zee GLOW'-bur).

The couple's baby was delivered by cesarean section after the wreck, but died a day later.
