Is it really best to sleep for seven or eight hours overnight? Spain has its siestas. Centuries ago, people slept in two four-hour segments with a period of wakefulness in between. Could it be time to rethink when and how we get our shut-eye?
HuffPost Live host Alicia Menendez asked experts to weigh in on the idea that there could be a "right" way to sleep. Dr. Charles Czeisler, professor of sleep medicine at Harvard Medical School, said that much of the problem lies in the fact that our society still associates needing sleep with laziness.
Matthew J. Wolf-Meyer, assistant professor of anthropology of UC Santa Cruz, is hopeful this will change. "We can all abide to the sleep schedule that makes the most sense for us," he said.
