This Show Paved The Way For 'SATC' And 'Girls'

Mary Tyler Moore is an American actress who is best known for her roles on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Besides appearing on the small screen, she also starred in numerous films like "Don't Just Stand There," and has been noted for her close friendships with A-listers like Edward Asner and Valerie Harper.

36 years ago today (on Mar.19), "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" ended its seven year run. In this photograph we see Mary Tyler Moore looking fabulous in a jumpsuit during the final taping of the CBS show. The sitcom was very much like the "Sex and the City" of the 1970s, as it profiled a single thirty-year-old woman who put her career ahead of her love life. Its discussion of topics like pre-marital sex and homosexuality were risqué for the decade, and paved the way for other female-centric shows like "Girls."
