Sacramento Man's Beating Investigated As Anti-Gay Hate Crime: Report

The brutal beating of a Sacramento man is being investigated by local authorities as an anti-gay hate crime.

The Sacramento Press reports the victim, who is in his 40s, was approached by the first suspect who came up from behind and used a series of anti-gay slurs.

Just as the first suspect was making derogatory comments, a second man approached, making other anti-gay remarks while striking the victim in the lower part of his body with a bat, police told The Sacramento Bee.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered minor injuries, a Sacramento police spokeswoman told the Bee.

Last week, a Davis, Calif. man was hospitalized after being beaten unconscious in an attack allegedly motivated by homophobia.

Davis police told CBS that 19-year-old Clayton Garzon has been arrested for beating Mikey Partida, who is openly gay.
