Rumors about a Nirvana reunion have swirled ever since Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Krist Novoselic reunited on stage at the 12-12-12 benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy with Paul McCartney.

"We started playing for the first two hours, maybe, we were so in awe of Paul that we forgot about Nirvana," Grohl told Rolling Stone about the reunion. "It took a few hours before I realized, wait a minute . . . we haven't done this in maybe 20 years, Krist and Pat and I – wow, how cool. And f----n' Paul is here, too."

Without the late great Kurt Cobain, the former members of Nirvana did not play any of the band's original tracks. In an interview with NME this week, Grohl spoke about the possibility of playing a Nirvana song live, saying, "Every once in a while we talk about it."

Grohl added, "The thing is, it's sacred ground. If we were ever to do something like that it would have to be right because you want to pay tribute. There's a reason Foo Fighters don't do Nirvana songs, and it's a good reason."
