(DETROIT) -- A firehouse on Detroit's east side has been robbed.

The theft occurred at Ladder 19, which has been closed by the city to help save money and is only used on a necessary basis. Officials said in published reports that thieves broke into the firehouse and made off with a television, equipment from a fire truck, and other items.

Police are investigating the matter.
