Lily Tomlin had a chance to address the comments she made about "Girls" in the pages of Vanity Fair during her appearance on "Kathy." In the magazine, while Tomlin admitted she doesn't have a "profound judgment" on the show, she said she was concerned about the show's focus on sexuality.
"I think it’s too sexually focused. I think it should have a little more range," Tomlin told the magazine. "Sexuality is what is going to bring the big audience ... [but] as a feminist, I don’t want those girls to be used."
Tomlin explained to Kathy Griffin that her comments were overstated in the magazine. Her real concern is with the teens and tweens watching the show who might want to emulate what the characters are doing. "There’s a line that has to be drawn at someplace ... even just to protect the young children," she said. "The young girls, 11, 12."
Lily Tomlin can be on the season finale of "Malibu Country" this Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. "Kathy" airs Thursdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on Bravo.
