Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin have reportedly shot a pilot together.

Deadline Hollywood reported on Tuesday that the New Years Eve duo shot a pilot together on Monday for CNN, perhaps an indication that the network is interested in turning their annual special into a series. The hourlong project was taped in front of a studio audience, which featured the newly appointed CNN president Jeff Zucker.

Zucker became CNN's president in late January and said he wanted to "expand the definition of what news is" when he took on this new role. He intended on introducing more nonfiction and reality-based programming to CNN's lineup, and was reportedly looking for a late night host.

Cooper and Griffin are close friends. In addition to co-anchoring CNN's New Years Eve coverage, the two TV stars have repeatedly shared stories about staying at each other's homes over the weekend and bonding with Cooper's mom, Gloria Vanderbilt.

Cooper, who has his primetime CNN show "AC360," will no longer be hosting his daytime talk show as it was canceled during its second season. Griffin currently hosts a weekly late night talk show on Bravo.

CNN is not the only network interested in Cooper. Sony reportedly approached him to host "Jeopardy!" once Alek Trebek steps down from his post in 2016. Deadline Hollywood also reported on Tuesday that NBC approached Cooper about replacing Matt Lauer before the end of the year and co-hosting the "Today" show. Lauer signed a reported $25 million-a-year contract that expires in 2014.
