Isaiah Thomas scored 31 points to lead the Sacramento Kings past Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, but it was Kings coach Keith Smart that played the role of hero to one young fan late in the third quarter.
Pressured by two defenders, Curry threw a wild pass to teammate Jarrett Jack. But the pass missed Jack and headed straight for a young child sitting courtside near the Kings' bench. Bracing for what seemed like the inevitable, the fan was saved when Smart jumped in front of the incoming ball and snatched it away at the very last second.
Smart appeared to say something to the fan, then extended his hand to give him a reassuring low-five.
