Being an actor can be hazardous work. From broken legs to sliced hands, plenty of injuries have resulted when actors put themselves in harm's way to get the perfect shot.
Though many accidents lead to a brief halt in production, most stars are eager get back to filming even if it requires cleverly masking their injuries -- like Jackie Chan did with a sneaker-painted sock used to cover a cast on his foot.

Halle Berry on the set of "Gothika"
Injury: Broken Arm While shooting the 2003 thriller, Berry broke her arm shooting a scene that required her to be restrained by costar Robert Downey Jr. She later told iVillage UK that <a href="http://www.ivillage.co.uk/halle-berry-interview/80199" target="_blank">it was simply an ill-timed accident</a>. "It was in a scene that didn't involve any stunts, Robert Downey Jr. twisted my arm the wrong way and it just...broke," she said. "But we're friends. It was an accident, just one of those freaky things that happen while making this odd movie." They halted filming for eight weeks in order for the injury to improve. She finished shooting the movie with a smaller cast from her elbow to her wrist.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the set of "Premium Rush"
Injury: Slashed His Arm While filming the 2012 film "Premium Rush" in New York, Gordon-Levitt ran into the back of a taxi cab's window. The collision resulted in a pretty large cut that required the actor to receive 31 stitches. The actor <a href="http://hitrecordjoe.tumblr.com/post/886108201/my-first-real-wreck-today-busted-through-the" target="_blank">shared the details</a> of the accident with a post on his blog. "My first real wreck today," he said. "Busted through the rear window of a cab. Luckily got my elbows up. Coulda been way worse. No, but it was my fault, I was going too fast."
Jackie Chan on the set of "Rumble in the Bronx"
Injury: Broken Foot The stunt guru Jackie Chan <a href="http://www.screenslam.com/10-star-actors-badly-injured-on-movie-sets/4/" target="_blank">met his match</a> while attempting to jump onto a moving hovercraft for 1995's "Rumble in the Bronx." He ended breaking his foot while attempting to complete the stunt. And to viewers' excitement, the entire incident had been captured on film and was included during the film's end credits. A broken foot didn't stop Chang from filming, though. He ended up completing filming while covering his cast with a sock painted like a shoe.
George Clooney on the set of "Syriana"
Injury: Severe Spinal Tears While filming a torture scene for the 2005 film "Syriana," Clooney suffered a back injury that left him in severe pain. The true extent of the damage wasn't discovered until a doctor's visit revealed fluid leaking from Clooney's spine. The actor <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/14/george-clooney-contemplated-suicide_n_1092154.html" target="_hplink">told Rolling Stone</a> that his recovery was extremely hard and he even considered suicide due to the intense back pain. "I was at a point where I thought, 'I can't exist like this. I can't actually live.'" he said. "I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you're having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, 'I may have to do something drastic about this." Luckily things improved after his surgery, but the actor says he still experiences some pain from the injury.
Channing Tatum on the set of "The Eagle"
Injury: Burned Penis While taking breaks in between a scene being shot in a freezing river, actors were warmed up by pouring a mix of boiling water and river water inside of their suits. Unfortunately for Tatum, when the time came for him to receive his dash of the mix, the crew member forgot to mix the boiling water with the river water. The hot water led to <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/channing-tatums-penis-inj_n_419982.html" target="_hplink">a pretty nasty painful injury for the actor</a> and he was rushed to the hospital for a badly burned penis.
Robert Downey Jr. on the set of "Iron Man 3"
Injury: Hurt Ankle During the production for the film scheduled for release on May 3, 2013, Downey Jr. injured his ankle while performing a stunt. The studio<a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20621566,00.html" target="_blank"> released a statement </a>saying "there will be a short delay in the production schedule" while the actor's injury healed.
Sylvester Stallone on the set of "The Expendables"
Wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin roughed up co-star Stallone just a little too much during a fighting scene for the film. The action star was rushed to the hospital to find there was a disc pushing against his spinal cord. Tough guy Stallone decided to continue shooting with the injury, electing to have surgery once the film was finished.
Brad Pitt on the set of "Troy"
Injury: Torn Achilles Tendon Pretty boy Brad Pitt was forced to halt filming for three months when he tore his Achilles tendon while shooting the final scenes for the 2004 film. The actor later <a href="http://www.mytelevision.com/movie_stars/brad_pitt.html" target="_blank">joked with MTV News</a> about just how painfully corny the who incident was -- seeing as he played the Greek God Achilles in the film. "It's a true story," Pitt said. "It's sad, it's stupid, but it's true. It's so wrong. It's such a bad headline."
Nicole Kidman on the set of "Moulin Rouge"
Injury: Broken Ribs The 2001 film was delayed before filming even started when Ewan MacGregor dropped Kidman and broke her rib. That initial injury <a href="http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2001/s300343.htm" target="_blank">was aggravated two weeks later </a>when, thinking it might help her ribs improve, Kidman decided to begin wearing her corset again. "Well it sort of started to heal and then we thought oh well, with the corset on, that should help it, you know, hold it in place and it actually cracked it more," she told the Australian Broadcasting Company during an interview.
Hilary Swank on the set of "P.S. I Love You"
A sexy strip tease turned pretty painful for Swank when Gerad Butler's suspender unhooked and hit the actress in the face. Butler played her husband in the film. Swank ended up needing stitches for the cut on her forehead and the film took a brief break from shooting for her to recover.
