There is no denying that Eugenio Derbez is one of Latin America’s most popular comedians. That’s why he’s a perfect choice when it comes to promoting a "Saturday Night Live" Mexico spinoff.

According to People en Español, SNL may be heading south of the border next season. Casting is currently underway and Eugenio has been listed as one of the show’s backers.

Several top Spanish TV execs are lending their name to the project, as producer Adriana Bello told People.

“I think we have a very good chance,” she explained. “It will be me, Fernando Rovzar and Eugenio Derbez producing the show.”

Bello went on to say that they are testing out top Latin comedians and hoping to preserve the traditional SNL format. If all goes well, look for “Sabado Noche En Vivo” to debut later this year.
