'Misfits' Season 5 Begins Filming, UK Broadcaster Announces End Of Series

Intel On The Final Season Of 'Misfits'

Season 5 of "Misfits" will be the British show's last, according to creator Howard Overman, producers Clerkenwell Films and UK broadcaster E4.

The final season, comprised of eight hourlong episodes, is set for a fall 2013 premiere in the UK. Hulu and Hulu Plus have the US rights to the series, and last season, episodes debuted shortly after their airings across the pond.

Murray Ferguson, Chief Executive of Clerkenwell Films, said in a statement: “Misfits was a bold and confident commission that backed original ideas and new talent, quickly becoming a hit with its audience on E4 and around the world. It's been great to produce a show that has been able to innovate on screen and online, and that broke new ground premiering with huge success on Hulu in America. Misfits has been an exciting and rewarding ride for us all and we now look forward to ending the show with a bang!”

Roberto Troni, drama commissioning editor added: “Misfits took the superhero genre and spun it on its head in an utterly unique and ambitious way. It was big, clever, funny and deliriously entertaining! E4 couldn’t be more proud of what the show has achieved. It has won countless awards, has launched the careers of directors and actors, and has played a vital part in E4’s continuing success. Howard and co have some BIG plans for the last series and like the characters in the show, it won’t be going quietly. Strap in and enjoy one final glorious ride!”

Here's E4's description of Season 5:

The new series marks the first anniversary of the storm and a support group forms on the estate for those people who find having a super power isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Like … the ability to knit visions of the future, or to shag unwanted powers out of other people (you read that right) or to transform into a turtle. And as Dark Rudy likes to talk-slash-moan, it should come as no surprise that he is the first of our gang to start attending. And it’s here that he sees a very different future facing the team -- one which could change things forever.

Strap on those ankle tags, because this is what you’ve been waiting for. Our guys are going to have to up their game if they’re going to tackle some real life A-grade super-powered vigilantes.

Rumors of a US version of the British superhero series circulated last year, with a pilot spec written by Overman and "Chuck" and "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz, but no network attached. "I hope we get to make it," Schwartz told The Huffington Post at the "Gossip Girl" 100th episode celebration. "I really hope we get the chance to make it. I'm working with Howard Overman, who created the U.K. version of 'Misfits,' so I'm playing the guide, and it's really his baby. I'm a huge fan of ['Misfits'], and that's my role on the show, as a fan."
