Political satirist Stephen Colbert will host two high-profile fundraisers for his sister, South Carolina Democratic House nominee Elizabeth Colbert Busch, Politico reported on Monday.
Colbert will host one fundraising event on April 15 in Washington and another on April 23 in New York, together with former investment banker Sallie Krawcheck. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) are listed as co-hosts for the D.C. event, according to Politico. Tickets to both events reportedly run as high as $10,000.
This isn't the first time the South Carolina contender has received a boost from her comedian brother.
Colbert Busch and her brother had a busy February, hosting a number of events including a $5,200-a-plate dinner and fundraisers in Charleston, S.C.. Attendees could acquire copies of books signed by Colbert for an additional $1,000 at a separate bowling-themed fundraiser also held in South Carolina.
Colbert Busch easily won her Democratic primary in March. Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Republican challenger Curtis Bostic will meet in a runoff on Tuesday to decide who will face Colbert Busch in May. A recent poll showed Colbert Busch with a slim lead ahead of both Sanford and Bostic.
