Back in February Rosie Rivera, Jenni Rivera’s sister, confirmed that she had plans of making a movie about Jenni. She wants the chance to share Jenni’s life with all of her fans and doing that through a movie appealed to Rosie. The Mexican American singer died last year in a plane accident killing her and six others on its way from Monterrey to Toluca.

According to La Opinión, the biopic “La Diva de la Banda”, will start filming in April. The director for the piece will be Francsico Joel Mendoza. As to who will play the leading lady herself, it has not been determined. On an appearance on Univión’s “El Gordo y la Flaca”, Mendoza mentioned valid reasons as to why either Jennifer Lopez or Angelica Vale could play the role successfully.

JLo wants to give Jenni Rivera the respect she deserves

Jennifer Lopez had previously met with Rosie Rivera and spoke about the possibilities of making the film with Lopez’ own production company, Nuyorican Productions. According to Terra, JLo believes that similar to that of Selena Quintanilla, Jenni Rivera deserves a successful Hollywood production in memory of her life. JLo also mentioned how she had never met the Mexican-American singer in person but respected her as an artist. Lopez rose to fame in 1998 when she played the role of legend Selena, even receiving a Golden Globe nomination for her work.

Aside from this being done to honor the deceased singer, a lot of permission needed to be given in order to proceed. The most important of them was having the right to use Rivera’s name in the film, which the director has acquired. He not only had to look for permission in Mexico, but also in the United States.

Although we can only live with her memory, Jenni is still managing to stay present in the music scene. Since the tragedy, her records continue to make it to the top of the Billboard Charts for best-selling Latin albums. Along with the future film coming out, her memoir “Unbreakable” will also be published along with an album of song that she recorded in English before the accident.
