Larry Pratt, executive director of gun advocacy group Gun Owners of America, spoke before a Louisiana tea party group last month and mockingly suggested that people with certain political dispositions were unfit to own firearms.
In a clip from the event unearthed by Right Wing Watch, Pratt takes a jab at President Barack Obama for a photo released by the White House earlier this year showing him skeet shooting, saying the president held the weapon "girly-like." According to the Shreveport Times, Pratt also took a swipe at Vice President Joe Biden for his advice that homeowners need only a shotgun for protection, claiming it was proof that he was as aloof about guns as Obama supposedly was.
Pratt went on to say that these incidents had nearly led him to change his views about whom the constitutional right to bear arms actually applied to.
“I think they've almost got me convinced to modify my purist Second Amendment position," Pratt said. "There are people that shouldn’t have guns, angry liberals should not have guns.”
While his remark appeared to be something of a joke for the conservative crowd, Pratt has thought it fine to pick and choose which people should be able to carry weapons in the past. The Washington Times reports that in 2011 he argued against allowing legal immigrants to obtain concealed weapons permits, saying that such people should become citizens if they wanted to carry guns.
Gun Owners of America only recently told the Times that the group has since changed its position.
