Motown Gospel: Motown Records & EMI Gospel Announce Joint Venture

This week legendary record label, Motown Records announced the launch of its newest label in conjunction with EMI Gospel simply titled, Motown Gospel.

Some of the names among the label’s expanding roster of stellar talent are Smokie Norful, Tasha Cobbs, Tye Tribbett, and Kierra Sheard, VaShawn Mitchell, and multi-Grammy Award-winner CeCe Winans.

“UMG's acquisition of EMI music offered the ideal opportunity to merge the EMI Gospel label with the strength of the newly revitalized Motown Records,” UMG East Coast Label Group Chairman & CEO, Barry Weiss said in a press release.

“The new Motown Gospel label will offer broader Urban AC crossover potential and further opportunities and synergy between Motown Gospel artists and the Motown and Island Def Jam urban roster.”

Among the label’s upcoming scheduled releases will be CeCe Winans’ as-yet-untitled album (Early 2014), Ty Tribbett’s “Greater Than” (June 4), followed by Kierra Sheard and Smokie Norful’s new solo albums hitting stores later this year.
