The fiery singer Shirley Manson and her band -- Garbage -- returned to Chicago on Wednesday evening for a sold-out gig at the Riviera Theatre in Uptown.

Garbage first came to prominence in the '90s with hits like "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Stupid Girl" but reunited and released their fifth studio album -- titled "Not Your Kind of People" -- and returned to touring last year after a lengthy hiatus.

The Midwest plays an important role in the band's formation -- they first got together in Madison, Wis. in 1994 -- and Manson credited a boozy encounter with her future bandmates in Chicago as a precursor to their coming together, Manson told HuffPost last summer.
