"The Young and The Restless" actress Jeanne Cooper was hospitalized this weekend and is reportedly in critical condition.

CBS Los Angeles (CBSLA) first reported Cooper was hospitalized on Saturday, April 13 in Los Angeles. The 84-year-old reportedly is in the Intensive Care Unit, but her ailment has not been disclosed.

Zap2It's Daytime Confidential reported that she is battling a "dangerous infection."

Cooper's son, "Psych" actor Corbin Bernsen, has been posting messages to his Facebook regarding his mother's hospitalization. He said the soap opera star has been progressing, and the family is thankful for the positive energy being sent her way.

"[M]om is steady, bumps in the road but heading in the right direction though still without guarantees and the absolutes I long for," he wrote on Monday. "Such is life, literally! God Bless all of you for your continued thoughts and prayers. They are the fuel right now and we're tapping into every ounce of it."

Her CBS family also sent well-wishes.

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with Jeanne Cooper and her family as she rests and recovers.

The Emmy winner has been acting since the 1950s, but it was with her "Young and the Restless" character, Katherine Chancellor, that she broke ground. She resonated with audience members with plot lines that included alcoholism and plastic surgery, CBSLA notes.

Last year, Cooper released her memoir, Not Young, Still Restless. In the book, she details dealing with sexual molestation as a child and the sudden death of her mother. She also reveals she suffered from double pneumonia three times as well as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Through it all Cooper persevered and is thankful for all of life's ups and downs.

"It has been amazing how much I have gained in knowledge and in relationships, and it’s been a learning experience," she told Michael Fairman Soaps when reflecting on her legacy. "This life has been a learning experience for me. That people basically love people, if they are decent human beings, and that I have earned the right to be respected. I now know it, because so many people have told me. I am aware of it, and I thank God I was put in a position to do so."
