Dick Van Dyke's Neurological Disorder Forces Actor To Cancel Appearance

Actor, comedian and Tinseltown legend Dick Van Dyke will miss an upcoming appearance in New York due to an undiagnosed neurological problem.

The 87-year-old was scheduled to appear at cultural hub and community center 92nd Street Y in New York City on April 26 to receive 92Y's first Lifetime Achievement Award for Bettering Humanity through Comedy.

However, Van Dyke had to cancel because of an undiagnosed neurological disorder, according to "Entertainment Tonight." His rep told ET that he is battling "fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder."

“Due to a medical condition, Mr. Van Dyke is unable to travel to New York for the program,” a spokesperson from 92nd Street Y told the New York Post.

He is currently resting in his home in Malibu, Calif.

Perplexed by this alleged neurological disorder, Van Dyke reached out to fans on Twitter for some advice on Wednesday.

He told his Twitter followers that he experiences a pulsing-sensation in his head. He revealed that he has been dealing with this for the past seven years and has already undergone a CAT scan, MRI and spinal tap.

Van Dyke's rep said nothing has worked to alleviate the symptoms.

"Tests and scans have yet to reveal a specific diagnosis," rep Bob Palmer told USA Today. "Various medications have not diminished the symptoms." He added that the actor has a "strong constitution and years on a daily fitness regimen Dick is otherwise in good physical condition but the fatigue factor has become acute."

Van Dyke began his acting career in the 1950s. He is best known for roles in "Bye Bye Birdie," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Mary Poppins," as well as for his namesake television sitcom, "The Dick Van Dyke Show." In January, he received the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
