Giovanni Ribisi has replaced Tommy Dewey in Fox's multicamera comedy "Dads," Deadline reports. The six-episode series was created by Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, the team behind "Ted" (in which Ribisi also starred).

The comedy is centered around Warner (Ribisi) and Eli (Seth Green), two successful men whose lives are thrown into disarray when their high maintenance fathers (played by Martin Mull and Peter Riegert) move in with them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the role was reimagined after the pilot taping last week, and Ribisi was apparently a better fit than Dewey. The character is described as "co-owner of a successful video game company and a family man with a wife and two young children." The role of Warner's wife was also recast, with Vanessa Lachey taking over from Erin Pineda following the table read.

Ribisi's best known TV roles include his stint on "Friends" as Phoebe's kooky brother Frank Jr., and Ralph Mariano on "My Name is Earl," but the actor has generally stuck to film since 2008. "Dads" was ordered straight to series for a six-episode run in January.
