The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the southern half of Lower Michigan until 6 p.m. Thursday.

In addition, a flood watch is in effect for parts of Southeast Michigan through Friday.

The weather alerts follows a stormy Wednesday. Flooding caused chaos on the roads in Grand Rapids:

Severe thunderstorms might be on the docket for Thursday as well, with damaging winds up to 70 mph.

A tornado watch does not mean tornadoes have been spotted. Instead, the alert is used to notify the public that current and approaching weather conditions could produce a tornado in the area.
