The original McDonald's -- as in, the first location to be opened by founder Ray Kroc himself -- has been flooded due to massive rains in the Chicago area.
Heavy rains that started flooding major thruways on Thursday morning and caused Illinois to declare a state of emergency have spread to the fast food chain's first ever location, opened on April 15, 1955, and the site of the McDonald's museum, WGNTV reports. The flooding just adds insult to injury for the chain, which struggled with slumping domestic sales over the past year.
It may be an eerie case of life imitating art, "Flooded McDonald's," a 2009 art film, depicted a McDonald's restaurant slowing filling up with water.
