Wade Davis, Gay Former NFL Player, To Speak At DC Youth Pride Event

Openly gay former NFL player Wade Davis is set to speak at the 18th annual Youth Pride Day celebration in Washington, D.C., presented by the Youth Pride Alliance (YPA).

The former Tennessee Titans player and HuffPost blogger is currently the assistant director of job readiness at the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) in New York City and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Surrogate for President Barack Obama.

As Elixher points out, the youth pride event takes place on April 27 and features performances, games, speakers and testimonials.

“I’m really excited to welcome Wade Davis to the 18th annual Youth Pride Day,” YPA President Nikisha Carpenter is quoted as saying. “As a former NFL player who is now out and empowering LGBTQ youth to succeed, Wade is an excellent role model for today’s youth.”

U.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton and Gustavo F. Velasquez, Director of District of Columbia Office of Human Rights, are among those scheduled to speak at the celebration.

Former Baltimore Ravens reserve linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, who is an LGBT equality advocate recently spoke upon his absence from the NFL stating that he now has a chance to help so many more people than he did while he was in football. With Davis' advocacy and dedication to LGBT youth, it seems as if his activism mirrors those sentiments.
