The American Family Association's Bryan Fischer pointed to the case of Carla Hale, a Catholic school teacher who was fired after being outed to her colleagues via her mother's obituary, as part of his recent plea for conservative Christians to "reclaim discrimination."
Fischer, whose anti-gay declarations have become a near-weekly staple of his "Focal Point" radio show, claims that Ohio's Bishop Watterson High School was "absolutely right" in its decision to fire Hale, Right Wing Watch first reported.
"There are times when discrimination is the right thing to do," Fischer, who compared the gay community to shoplifters, said. "It is right to discriminate against people who engage in aberrant sexual behavior. We should discriminate against people like that."
Last year, Fischer made similar claims when arguing in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), noting that conservatives should "discriminate unapologetically" when it comes to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
"It is altogether right for a rational culture to discriminate against homosexual behavior," Fischer said. "I am saying, yes, that's exactly what DOMA does and it should...because [homosexuality] is not a benign alternative to heterosexuality...we ought to discriminate."
