Emperor Franz Joseph's Hair Auctioned For $17,870

A lock of hair belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph has been auctioned in Vienna for 13,720 euros ($17,870).

The lock belonged to the estate of the emperor's valet, Eugen Ketterl, and was auctioned by the Dorotheum auction house. The buyer was not revealed.

Also under the hammer at Thursday's auction were Franz Joseph's cufflinks, which sold for 8,750 euros, a gold hunting pin that sold for 6.875 euros, and a handkerchief with his initials that sold for 2,750 euros.

Franz Joseph ruled from 1848 to 1916 and was the penultimate monarch of the Habsburg dynasty.
