"Silver Linings Playbook" was nominated for eight Academy Awards, grossed $232 million worldwide and moved Jennifer Lawrence's world domination threat level up to red. Yet would David O. Russell's film have been such a crowning achievement with a different ending?
That's the question fans and interested parties can ponder thanks to the alternate "Silver Linings Playbook" ending included on the DVD and Blu-ray copies of the film. MTV debuted the clip (via Vulture), which you can watch above. Before you do, however, consider these moments:
0:30: The neighborhood kid talking to Bradley Cooper is played by David O. Russell's son Matthew.
0:41: "You're a handsome guy. Look at your head of hair! You've got a thick head of hair."
1:16: "He's moaning and groaning." Keep this in and Robert De Niro gets an Oscar for that line reading?
1:28: The adorable way Jacki Weaver laughs at Chris Tucker here seems genuine.
2:16: "That kid who was mean to him at the movie theater." Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence has arrived, and her first piece of dialogue is exposition about who Matthew Russell is playing.
2:26: "You were harassing me." "I was harassing you with love."
2:50: Cooper saying, "Oh no."
3:00: Jennifer Lawrence reveling in saying, "Kid's gotta go!"
3:18: "And he's a mean kid."
3:31: Cooper seemingly just losing it IRL.
To be fair, the alternate ending is actually just an extension of the actual ending, which takes many of the moments above and simply edits them together in a montage. "Silver Linings Playbook" is available on DVD and Blu-ray starting on April 30.
