'Jamestown Day' To Be Celebrated May 11; Marking 406th Anniversary Of First Permanent English Settlement In U.S.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Historic Jamestowne and Jamestown Settlement are preparing to mark the 406th anniversary of the founding of the first permanent English settlement in what is now the United States.

Activities planned for "Jamestown Day" on May 11 a demonstration of sailing maneuvers in the James River by a replica of one of the three ships that brought colonists to Virginia in 1607.

Historic Jamestowne is the site of the original settlement. Jamestown Settlement is a living history museum.
